Trash Free River
Since September 2020, Save The River has successfully planned and executed numerous Trash Free River (TFR) shoreline cleanups along the St. Lawrence River. This program is an ongoing effort to make the St. Lawrence River “swimmable, fishable, and drinkable now and for generations to come.”
As a community-based, volunteer-oriented initiative, Trash Free River Cleanups are focused on the shoreline, wetlands, and shoreline-adjacent River bottom areas accessible to the public.
Thanks to the 120+ volunteers who helped with the 2024 cleanup season, over 1,300 pounds of trash (including tires, lumber, and polystyrene) were removed from the St. Lawrence River! Our cleanup efforts are made possible thanks to the Leonard C. & Mildred F. Ferguson Foundation, Labatt USA, #TeamSeas, Project C by National Grid, Community Bank, N.A., and the Northern New York Community Foundation.

Trash Free River Cleanups are fun, outdoor team-building spaces and are a great way to promote your business to the River community. We’re also always looking for volunteers with boats, trucks, and dump trailers.
